Partnerships have been key to InCommon’s impact.

We partnered with housing associations, care homes, schools, youth groups and community organisations to connect people of different ages in meaningful ways that benefited everyone taking part.

We were also lucky enough to work with some brilliant corporate supporters who support our work through fundraising, volunteering and sponsoring our programmes.

Housing and care partnerships

Many of our intergenerational programmes took place in the communal lounges of retirement homes and sheltered housing. This helped make our workshops accessible to residents and also gave young people an insight into older people’s housing.

We ran most of our Connect, Social Action and Empower programmes in Greater London For those outside of London, assisted them through Empower, our online platform and support offer.

You can also find out about one of our partnerships with Sutton Housing Society by watching this short video filmed for Global Intergenerational Week. Our CEO, Hannah, spoke to Angie Holland, Community Engagement Officer about the programme at Norman House.

Schools and youth groups

Where possible, we partnered with schools that were within a 15 minute walk away from retirement schemes and community centres. This meant that younger and older people were able to make genuine connections in their communities.

Wisewood Community Primary School partnered with Sutton Heights retirement scheme in Sheffield through our Empower programme. They first met in November 2023.

Corporate partnerships

We loved working with mission-aligned corporates that shared our values. There were many ways corporates got involved, from sponsoring a programme to volunteering at our intergenerational workshops.

Academic partnerships

We were lucky to work with some brilliant academic partners who brought their skills and knowledge to help us deepen our impact.

We worked with Dr Helen Kingstone since 2023 to explore how we could bring more story-sharing and life-history approaches into our workshops and programmes. This included the development of a Life Rivers board game and a Shared Stories programme.
