Ending well: Sharing our work with the intergenerational sector

As you know, InCommon is closing at the end of May and we have worked hard to ensure that we end our charity well and finish with the love and joy we started with. Over the past few weeks, we’ve held workshops across London, celebrating the connections made between school children and their local older neighbours as part of our programmes. It has been a joy seeing the impact of these friendships and we’re glad we had the opportunity to celebrate together one final time.

In addition to these workshops, we’ve been working hard to explore how our work can live on. Thanks to the support of organisations in the intergenerational space, we’re delighted to share the following updates:

  • Bradford-based charity The Linking Network will be taking over our online platform, Empower, which is a tool that supports intergenerational activities on a national level.

  • We’ll also be handing over some of our intergenerational programmes to Magic Me, the UK’s leading intergenerational arts charity.

  • And finally, Gen-All, the leading centre for intergenerational practice, research, and innovation in England, will be taking over our events, such as the Age-Friendly Awards.

Thank you to The Linking Network, Magic Me and Gen-All for believing in our work and supporting connections between older and younger generations.

Ben Butcher, Joint CEO and Executive Director at Magic Me:

"We have long admired InCommon’s brilliant work bringing school children and older neighbours together, to create stronger communities, improve confidence and reduce isolation. It is deeply sad to lose such a vital voice within the sector. We are incredibly proud to stand alongside The Linking Network and Gen-All to ensure this extraordinary legacy lives on. At Magic Me, we are so excited to welcome the Connect programme into our family and help keep these vital intergenerational connections flourishing for years to come."

Judith Ish-Horowicz MBE, Co-Founder of Gen-All:

InCommon’s work has helped demonstrate the power of intergenerational relationships to reduce isolation, strengthen communities and create lasting social change. It is a privilege for Gen-All to support the continuation of the Age-Friendly Awards and to help ensure this important legacy continues to inspire the sector.”
